Essential EM Spanish FAQ's

Essential EM Spanish was designed with your busy lifestyle in mind. Even if you have no spare time, you can still listen to the audio mp3’s on your commute or at the gym, and use the Cheat Sheets or the app for quick review during shifts, or as a reference at the bedside.
All of the above. The course provides education on basic Spanish, and the patient questions are mainly yes-or-no so that even a novice can understand the answers. On the other hand, there is plenty of medical vocabulary that even a lot of intermediate and advanced speakers won’t already know, so almost anyone can improve their skills with this course.
You probably could, eventually. But by using this course as a “shortcut”, you can save hundreds of hours compared to doing it on your own, and hundreds or even thousands of dollars compared to hiring someone to teach you. This course is the quickest–and hence the most economical–way to learn medical Spanish for the ER.
The course is designed with mainly yes/no questions for that very reason. The rest of the questions are short-answer, and the course will teach you enough Spanish to understand those answers as well. However, if a patient refuses to cooperate and goes off on tangents, a sample dialogue is provided in the course manual (on page 4) to let the patient know you don’t understand and help them get back on track.
By using the pronunciation lesson in the course you’ll learn how to pronounce any written word in Spanish. Alternatively, you can simply listen to and repeat the pronunciation that is demonstrated for the phrases on the videos, audio, and app.
Of course you should always still offer to use an interpreter, but you probably won’t need one nearly as often!
There aren’t separate quizzes, but all the videos and audio quiz you as you go along, by pausing long enough for you to try and translate the phrase yourself.
$695 is the full physician price, so sometimes it lists that by default without showing the other price options. However, once you login (or create an account) and go to the “REGISTER” tab, you’ll see the other price tiers and be able to enter a discount code at checkout if applicable.
From the main course page (on ceme.org), use the “REGISTER/TAKE COURSE” tab to login or create an account. From there you’ll be able to choose your price tier, add a discount code if applicable, and check out.
The “COUPON CODE” box appears after you add the course to your cart.
Once you’re enrolled, you can use this link to go directly to the course. Use the menu there to download or stream all the course materials.
Instructions for the app will be sent to in a separate email shortly after you register (usually within 1-2 business days). If you don’t see the email, check your email’s spam or junk folder for an email from [email protected].
You can download all the audio mp3’s as well as the pdf’s (Course Manual and Cheat Sheets). While the videos are not downloadable, they are easy to stream on any device. We recommend using downloaded audio files (rather than streaming video) if you’re temporarily without an internet connection due to travel or other circumstances.
Every person who registers for this course will have continuous access to the app for at least two years from the date of purchase, and probably much longer. Occasional downtime for site maintenance may occur.
The “expiration date” on ceme.org just refers to when the current accreditation expires. However, we plan to renew the accreditation each time it expires, and typically anyone who hasn’t completed the course for credit will be “rolled over” to the next version.
Wondering what the course looks and sounds like?
You’re in luck. 😉 I set up a demo page with sample materials, so you can get an idea of the look and feel.
